He has profesional interests in microbiology, pathology, and immuinology, and has spent his working life in Australia teaching, researching, and consulting. Since his retirement, Vardaxis has turned his focus to the humanities and works as an artist and photographer. He also writes and publishes fiction and poetry, and composes classical music.
